223 Remington vs 5.56 mm NATO cartridges

I have been asked this question so many times I decided to write a short summary with technical data included here it is.

*Difference Between .223 Remington and 5.56mm NATO*

The Bullet size/diameter is exactly the same between the two rounds, 5.56mm = .223 inch.

The Cartridge case dimensions (e.g. shoulder angle, case diameter, and taper) are also identical.

*But there are some differences*

_The head space and throat size are different _

The specifications for the 5.56 NATO dictate a more generous throat, which is the area of the chamber directly in front of the cartridge case mouth. This allows for more reliability, at the sacrifice of some accuracy.

The SAAMI spec for the .223 Rem is a much tighter throat designed for increased accuracy. The .223 Rem cartridge was designed for use in varmint rifles which require flat shooting, consistent ballistics over varied and usually long ranges. Therefore, the specs were created with an eye looking for tighter accuracy.

The maximum pressure is also different. The maximum pressure spec is 50,000 CUP for the .223 Rem VS 60,000 CUP for the 5.56 NATO. This difference along with the tighter throat dimensions are why you should *never fire 5.56 NATO in a sporting arm marked .223 Rem. *

It is safe to fire .223 Rem in a firearm marked 5.56 NATO, but you may experience some case stretching . The headspace tolerances are different.

Minimum headspace is pretty much the same at 1.464 inches for the .223 Rem and 1.4636 inches for the 5.56 NATO. The No-Go gauge for the .223 Rem is 1.467 inches or .003 more than the go, the field gauge would be .002 inches more, giving a total maximum chamber of 1.469 inches.

On the other hand the 5.56 NATO has a maximum chamber headspace of 1.4736 inches or .005 inches more than the maximum SAAMI spec for the .223 Rem. The military 5.56 NATO usually uses thicker walled brass and it is fire once and discard, so they don’t really care. They just need everything to chamber and fire once reliably usually in selective fire weaponry.

According to the Jan. 14 Atlanta Journal-Constitution, US Representative Hank Johnson claimed that the United States imprisons a greater percentage of its population than any other nation. Since Johnson is not known for getting his facts straight , the intrepid AJC fact-checkers checked and–guess what?–Johnson was almost right.
Johnson wants fewer people imprisoned, since felons make up a goodly part of his (and Obama’s) constituency, but there are actual humanitarian and practical reasons to reduce the numbers of the incarcerated. Our jails and prisons are overcrowded, putting the (mostly nonviolent) convicts at the mercy of the most brutal inmates. Controlling prison gangs is virtually impossible. Convicts plan and supervise their collaborators’ crimes from behind bars using easily smuggled cell phones. Guards, too often corrupt, cannot in any case adequately control the population. Jails and prisons are expensive, too; so much so that, for example, Fulton County GA cannot afford to put workinglocks on its cells in a timely fashion. Until they do, prisoners can apparently stroll around at will.
These problems lead to others, for instance early release and parole. Many relatively petty criminals are sentenced to probation–no punishment at all. Some are fined, the money going to the local, state or Federal government, guaranteeing that it will be largely wasted. Other than turning the United States into one huge prison, either maximum-security (the North Korean option) or minimum-security (the recent Communist Chinese innovation, at least if you’re not Tibetan). What can be done?
I propose bringing back corporal punishment. Today’s essay will deal with relatively minor crimes and misdemeanors, those causing minimal to no direct harm but which reduce other people’s quality of life or present a potential danger. These would normally be punished by fines or short jail terms. Examples, in no particular order, are public intoxication, soliciting for (adult) prostitution, reckless or impaired driving, vandalism, public disturbance, indecent exposure or lewd conduct (not involving children), possession and sale of small amounts of drugs, aggressive panhandling and so forth.*
To be effective, punishment must be quick, consistent and certain. It should prevent recidivism, at least statistically, but not be so severe as to cause permanent harm (as, for instance, being raped and brutalized by violent inmates would). It should be inexpensive. To have a deterrent effect it should be public, and vivid enough to come readily to mind when someone thinks of performing an illegal action.
I propose reintroducing the stocks and the pillory to the public square. The former holds prisoners by the ankles, seated, while the latter holds the neck and hands, standing. Convicts are required to spend a number of hours or days so confined, exposed in a public
place where they are subject to abuse and taunts from passers-by. In deference to modern sensibilities I would not have convicts exposed at night or during severe weather, and would have guards present to prevent their injury. Prisoners would be supplied with water during hot weather and appropriate clothing in winter. The public would be kept at a reasonable distance.
As in historical times, however, the public would be permitted to taunt and insult the convicts. They would also be allowed to to pelt them with rotten eggs, spoiled fruit and vegetables, and other non-injurious missiles (e.g. snowballs.) Prisoners would be supplied with goggles to avoid eye injury, but would be unprotected otherwise. Guards would be responsible for wiping or hosing away residue from time to time and otherwise assuring sanitation.
I believe public humiliation and discomfort would accomplish what our criminal justice and failed “rehabilitation” programs do not, at a remarkably lower cost. There may also be some direct economic and social benefit to bringing people downtown to amuse themselves at the convicts’ expense. Besides selling otherwise useless spoiled foods for the amusement of the crowds, retailers of all sorts would have more potential customers, encouraging entrepreneurship. Children would have healthy exercise running and throwing things at their deserving targets. This would be a welcome change from video games, and less violent. The convicts themselves would serve a much shorter sentence, freeing jail space and corrections officers to handle the serious and violent offenders. And, at the very least, it would make good reality TV.
* Whether some of these should be crimes at all is another question.

New Obama tax scheme hits Hybrid and Smart car owners

People owning cars boasting high gas mileage, are the new target of the tax greedy Obama regime.

The current federal tax on gasoline is 18.4 cents per gallon. Now because of fuel efficient vehicles, the federal tax coffers are getting short changed.

Never mind that it was the federal government who pushed the higher mileage standards. Along with promoting smaller cars to “save the environment” , and “end our dependence on foreign oil”.

You people driving fuel efficient cars are not paying your fair share!!

To bad we didn’t end Obama’s dependence on our money. The new scheme will now charge people by the mile rather than by the gallon. This would level the paying field for all motorists.

Let’s not forget raising the cost of everything in the U.S. Truckers will also pay an even higher premium. So if it gets to your local store by truck, you will pay more.

Pro Fairtax White House Petition

Neal Boortz is a nationally syndicated talk show host, and an ardent supporter of the FairTax.  He has started a petition for a one hour discussion with Obama on tax reform.

Check out the petition, it needs to get 25 thousand signatures by February 7 , to force a White House response.

This is a great opportunity for national publicity on the FairTax. Will Neal actually influence Obama’s decisions? I highly doubt it, but the more people educated on the FairTax the better.

House was right to defeat Sandy relief bill.

The $ 60 billion dollar hurricane Sandy relief bill was defeated in the House of Representatives today.
The bill was filled with billions $ in pork that had nothing to do with the Sandy victims relief effort. It’s about time our congress starts watching where our tax dollars are going.

I’m not going to hold my breath hoping this trend continues, but it’s a start.

 

Here is the list

•$2 million to repair damage to the roofs of museums in Washington, D.C., while many in Hurricane Sandy’s path still have no roof over their own heads.

•$150 million for fisheries as far away from the storm’s path as Alaska.

•$125 million for the Department of Agriculture’s Emergency Watershed Protection program, which helps restore watersheds damaged by wildfires and drought.

•$20 million for a nationwide Water Resources Priorities Study.

•$15 million for NASA facilities, though NASA itself has called its damage from the hurricane ‘minimal.’

•$50 million in subsidies for tree planting on private properties.

•$336 million for taxpayer-supported AMTRAK without any detailed plan for how the money will be spent.

•$5.3 billion for the Army Corps of Engineers – more than the Corps’ annual budget – with no statement of priorities about how to spend the money.

•$12.9 billion for future disaster mitigation activities and studies, without identifying a single way to pay for it.

Emancipation Proclamation

On this day in history, January 1, 1863 (150 years ago ), President Abraham Lincoln issued an executive order known as the Emancipation Proclamation. Lincoln issued the proclamation as Commander-In-Chief during the Civil War.

The order applied to all southern states but excluded Delaware, Maryland, Missouri, Kentucky, and Tennessee because some loyal to the Union, and some were already under Union control.

One of the immediate consequences was a sudden rise in recruitment of black soldiers from the north and mid-west. The proclamation also stated that former slaves could join the Union Army. By the end of the war, over 200,000 blacks joined the Union military.

About 50,000 slaves were freed immediately after the proclamation. The remaining 3.1 million were freed during the course of the war.

That’s when the Democrat Party knew they had to get busy. Make no mistake about it, gun control was strictly a racist action.

The slaves were now considered FREE MEN, that means they were allotted the rights of every other man, including the right to keep and bear arms.
Immediately  after the Civil War the South started passing gun control laws, in an effort to deprive blacks of their right to self defense. Any whites caught violating the laws were quickly released with wink and a nod, like it never happened.

Since that time the Democrat Party has morphed into ideals based on Socialism. No longer is gun control about restricting the rights of freed slaves, it’s now about the control of all free men, black, white, or otherwise. It’s not about guns it’s about control.

Playing on the media hype of RPGs from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, along with the public ignorance of existing gun laws and weapons in general.  During a Los Angles gun buy back, the LAPD claimed to have recovered some rocket propelled grenade launchers (RPGs ).

The truth is those are not real live weapons!! They are inert training devices and props. Look at the picture in the article the word “Trainer” is clearly visible.

The LAPD police chief is holding an inert military trainer for the AT-4. These are  one use only weapons, and cannot be reloaded even if it wasn’t a trainer.

The media has achieved their goal, they have stirred up the emotions of the ignorant.  Purposely omitting facts to sensationalize a non story, and the dumb masses have fallen for it.

I wouldn’t put it past the media to grab some Hollywood props, and have someone turn them in to make a story. It wouldn’t be the first time they fabricated evidence to prop up a non story.
NBC, and ABC both used explosives to build up bogus stories on exploding vehicle fuel tanks. Sixty Minutes, a CBS show, has multiple times, fabricated video footage to create stories that really didn’t exist. Remember how they stood by Dan Rather’s fake memo? 

People have to start using their brains, (democrats operate on emotions not facts) that’s why I call the people who don’t dummycrats, they don’t do their own research, they drink the media and democrat leadership kool aid without any questions or verification.
The FBI’s UCR (Uniform Crime Report)  clearly shows that areas with strict gun control have drastically higher crime rates than areas that allow their citizens to carry concealed weapons for self defense. THAT IS A FACT!
Don’t expect a liberal to actually investigate the UCR or even know what it is. They are only here to follow what their masters in the democrat party and main stream media tell them.

French Court rejects 75% tax but is it too late?

Actions have consequences.  France’s high court rejected the new top tax rate of 75% on people making 1 million Euros or more. It may be too little too late.

When Socialist President Francois Hollande announced the new top tax rate of 75%, businessmen and others affected started planning their exodus. Taking their jobs and spending money with them.

This has started a chain of events. Selling off their homes at reduced rates to get out, affects the common home owner by lowering everyone’s value.

Businesses depending on the wealthy, such as expensive shops and restaurants, and their employees suffer without he influx of that cash. Increasing unemployment and failed businesses. Reducing even more money to the French treasury.

Let’s face it Would YOU keep doing what you are doing if you only got to keep 25% of your income. In reality it’s less than 25% because of other taxes such as property, sales and embedded fees.

Rahm Emanuel comments on Chicago’s 500th murder

A city with the strictest gun control in a state with the strictest gun control of any state, and the mayor thinks it’s unfortunate they have had 500 homicides this year.
Since 1931 Chicago has been run by democrats, both the mayor’s office and the city council.
What they have created is a third world enclave, right here in the United States. They have their socialist welfare state, the people are conditioned to accept their environment and love it, every new democrat dictator has the same goals, and they have the strictist gun control in the country.

They can’t allow the law abiding citizen to defend themselves, they might become independent and not need the democrat nanny state.
How many people would have been alive today if they were permitted to defend themselves. We will never know.

This is what the democrats want for all of us. I sure Hussein Obama will feel it’s unfortunate just like his favorite fellow Marxist Rahm

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Republicans fight for Veterans Second Amendment rights

Republican Senator Tom Coburn battles top democrats for Veterans firearms rights.
Democrats want the Department of Veterans affairs to have the power to deny a veteran his Second Amendment rights.

Republicans are fighting that before someones rights are taken away from them due process  should be followed and only the courts and a Judge should have that power.

Would you trust a Washington Bureaucrat with any of your rights? Democrats will do anything to limit our firearms rights.

After supporting Obama, Costco avoids his tax increases

Costco was huge supporter of the tax greedy Barack Hussein Obama and the democrat tax increase plans. The former CEO even had a prime time speaking slot at the Democrat convention. But now the hypocrisy shows.
The board of directors held an emergency meeting to vote for a dividend  to be paid out this year. Therefore avoiding the huge democrat tax increase coming in 2013.

Victory over Japan WWII

When :

August 14th – Japan surrenders

August 15th – Surrender announced to the world

September 2 – Ceremony and formal signing of surrender

 

VJ Day marks the end of WWII, and the cessation of fighting against Japan. It is called “Victory In Japan Day or “Victory Over Japan Day”.

 

The confusion over three dates:

There is some confusion over what date is V-J Day. You can consider any (or all) of three dates as V-J Day. President Harry S. Truman caused some of this confusion……..

On August 14, 1945, the Japanese government cabled to the U.S. their surrender. This is the date of most modern observances.

On August 15, 1945, news of the surrender was announced to the world. This sparked spontaneous celebrations over the final ending of World War II.

On September 2, 1945, a formal surrender ceremony was held in Tokyo Bay aboard the USS Missouri. At the time, President Truman declared September 2 to be VJ Day.

 

Regardless of which day you view as VJ Day, World War II was finally over.

 

 


A Little VJ Day History

The war in the Pacific was hard fought and bloody. The tide had definitely turned, and the U.S. military was fighting island by island towards Japan. Resistance was fierce. Casualties on both sides were high.

 

The U.S. had developed the atomic bomb. The U.S. government was anxious to end the war, and stop the loss of American lives.

 

On August 6th, 1945, the United States military dropped an atomic bomb over the city of Hiroshima, Japan in an effort to force Japan into an immediate, unconditional surrender. Instead of immediately surrendering, the Japanese government debated what to do. So, the U.S. dropped a second atomic bomb on August 9, 1945 over the city of Nagasaki, Japan.

 

On August 14, 1945, Japanese Emperor Hirohito cabled the U.S. to surrender, and agreed to the terms of the Potsdam Declaration.

 

On August 15, 1945, news of the surrender was announced to the world. World War II was finally over. Hostilities ended.

 

On September 2, 1945, the Japanese formally surrendered aboard the U.S. battleship USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. President Truman declared this to be V-J Day.

 

Did You Know? The battleship USS Missouri was chosen for the formal surrender ceremony, as she was named after President Truman’s home state.

Originally the USS North Carolina was chosen for the surrender, but President Truman overruled it and chose the USS Missouri. Rank Has It’s Privledges

The great Obama Con Game

The Obama stimulus of almost $900 billion dollars was passed in 2009. It was passed by a democrat controlled House of Representatives, and a filibuster proof democrat Senate.

 

So why did Barak Obama say this week that he didn’t do a good enough job selling Americans on the stimulus plan. What?
He got the stimulus money over 3 years ago. Shouldn’t his plan have sold itself by now from its success?

 

Therein lies the problem. The Obama stimulus has been a miserable failure.

 

Obama promised that the unemployment rate would drop and by 2012 would be down to 5.6%, it’s been 8% and higher ever since.

 

He promised it would have an immediate impact with shovel ready jobs. In June of 2011 Obama laughed as he admitted the shovel ready jobs weren’t shovel ready. The people that are unemployed aren’t laughing.

 

He promised it would lift 2 million Americans out of poverty, instead we have 6.3 million more Americans in poverty.

 

 

 

He could have told us the truth. That the stimulus was needed as a pay back to his big donors. He couldn’t get campaign money for his re-election without using the U.S. taxpayer to cover his bets.

 

No, instead Obama turned snake oil salesman and pulled a con job on the American people. He took our tax dollars and all we have to show for it is a greater national debt.

 

Watch out, Barak the snake oil salesman, is working on his next big con.

The Sheepdog Fallacy

The Sheepdog Fallacy

I’m an armed citizen and take self-defense seriously. I know the conventional wisdom: We’re on our own, when seconds count the police are only minutes away, all of that. I train with a variety of weapons, in a variety of ways, with a variety of people all more adept and expert than I. My goal is to be safe, responsible, effective, and when possible to help others be the same. You’d be hard pressed to find a stronger supporter of the Bill of Rights–all 10 amendments–anywhere.
That said, there’s an idea common in the self-defense community that I think is not only incorrect but dangerously so. It was put forward most recently in a pro-gun column in the August 3rd.Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and goes like this:
People can be divided into three groups, sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs. Sheep are the stupid majority, helpless in the face of danger, cowardly, conforming, hiding from threats (real or imagined) in the midst of the herd. Wolves prey on these, snatching sheep and lambs as they can, leaving only bloody scraps behind.* Sheepdogs are the guardians of the flock, bravely standing between the sheep (for whom they have a vague contempt) and the wolves, their sworn enemies. This makes the self-identified sheepdogs very proud.
Let’s consider this for a minute. “Sheepdog” doesn’t describe me and probably shouldn’t apply to you, either. First, who do sheepdogs serve? Not the sheep. They serve the shepherd, whoowns both the herd and the sheepdogs. What’s the shepherd doing with the sheep? Making a living, first by regularly shearing, or “fleecing” them, second by eating them, and third by selling them to someone else for either purpose. Sure, the shepherd wants the sheep alive and healthy. His living depends on them. They’re not pets, they’re products. The sheepdogs aren’t pets, either. They’re regarded as employees at best, as tools at worst. They exist to do a job.
Second, what is the sheepdog’s job? It’s not to protect the individual sheep, which they couldn’t do in any case. There are simply too many sheep and too few sheepdogs. Having enough sheepdogs to guarantee each sheep’s safety is not possible. The goal is to keep sheep losses to an acceptable level. Acceptable to the shepherd, that is. Sheepdogs  protect the herd, not each sheep, and to make this collective protection (and fleecing, and roast lamb) feasible the herd must be controlled, which is the sheepdog’s primary job.  Domestic sheep are unable to survive in the wild; without the shepherd’s control they couldn’t live.
Third, how do sheepdogs control the herd? Through fear. Many years ago in New Zealand I watched sheepdog trials. In response to the shepherd’s whistles and hand signals his beautifully trained dogs circled the herd, crouching and staring at the sheep, who nervously moved away in the direction the shepherd wanted. If the sheep weren’t fearful they couldn’t be herded.
Think about it. Police officers are formally tasked with protecting “society,” i.e. the herd, not the individual. (See, e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_v._District_of_Columbia) In our society, governments from the Federal to the local increasingly act like shepherds.  Police, the great majority of whom are fine and honorable people, are in the role of sheepdogs, like it or not.
Armed citizens are a problem for the shepherds. Not being sheep, they’re not afraid of the sheepdogs and are prepared to take on the wolves, hyenas or whoever. They mean no harm to anyone, have no desire to control others, but are much harder to control and therefore to exploit. Worse, their example might spread. They’re not  wolves, but not  sheepdogs either. The shepherds, expecting obedience from everything but wolves, have no clue how to deal with them. Their common response is to try to get rid of armed citizens one way or another, typically by removing the arms. Acting like a sheepdog when you’re not gives the shepherds that opportunity.From the sheepdog’s viewpoint the armed citizen is just in the way, becoming one more source of disorder. They hate disorder. From the herd’s viewpoint, they’re either scary or a provocation. Sheep have dominance hierarchies, too. Consider George Zimmerman, whose sheepdog fantasies led him to confront Trayvon Martin. Martin might have grown up to be anything from a serial killer to a respected statesman, but at that moment he was just a smartass kid who wasn’t going to let himself be pushed around. So he did what sheep do, butted heads with what he thought was another sheep, and now he’s dead. Zimmerman, who might have become a respected leader in his community had he learned better judgment, may never get his life back. The shepherds, meanwhile, use this sad incident as yet another excuse to remove the “menace” of the armed citizen from their herds.
Given all that, if you must have an inspirational totem animal, what fits? Well, two of the most dangerous animals on the planet are the rhino and the Cape Buffalo. They’re grass-eaters,  grazing happily if unmolested and seriously aggressive when threatened. Neither seems obligated to protect the zebras, wildebeest and so forth from the predators. Rhinos are pretty much solitary, buffalo live in groups that cooperate in their defense.  I wouldn’t try to herd either one. Take your pick.
* I like wolves, who generally get a bad rap. Modern urban predators are more like hyenas or jackals, but that’s another rant.

Obama The Ruler

Once again Obama threatens to bypass the elected representatives of the people of this country. Once again Obama is threatening to violate his oath of office and ignore the Constitution. Once again Obama threatens to circumvent the will of the people and rule by executive fiat. Remember this in November. He may ‘evolve’ against an issue sacred to you next. With a demonstrated will to circumvent the checks and balances of the Constitution and without having to face the ballot box again, he may just do away with elections by fiat if re-elected.

Agenda 21

No matter which candidate/party takes control of our government in 2013, EVERYONE needs to be on high alert whenever someone in government at any level uses the words ‘sustainable development’. I have just become aware that the United Nations, through an initiative called Agenda 21, has been working to undermine capitalistic societies and governments at all levels for over two decades using innocuous words like ‘sustainable development’ and ‘protection of the ecosystem’. Anyone paying attention knows that the green movement was the landing spot for vehement communists in this country, but I was unaware of how deeply our government even at the local level had been co-opted by the UN and this insidious Agenda 21. I have confirmation that initiatives related to this Agenda 21 are being funded all over this country by the Tides Foundation and George Soros. We should all be familiar with this America-hater by now. He has made billions undermining the dollar in foreign currency markets and is using that wealth to destroy the very foundations of this once great nation. Agenda 21 is another of the mechanisms Soros is using to accomplish his evil goals. Basically, this is some very scary stuff!!

Premature Time of Death

I may have been premature in my declaration that the USA is dead. Afterall, I am not a doctor and don’t even play one…well anywhere. However, this country is on life support and whether it has any hope of recovery or will simlply cease to exist is very dependent on the elections in November. I know a great many are not happy with the presumptive GOP candidate for President, Mitt Romney, (including me), but I guarantee he will do less damage to this condition critical nation than another 4 years of Obama. We also have to wrestle the majority in the Senate from the Democrats and Harry Reid. He cannot be allowed to control the flow of vital legislation through the upper chamber any longer. It is time for all good men (and women) to come to the aid of their country, while we still have one!

P.S. no I have not put the stars and stripes back up in from of my house yet. However, I will be flying my Gadsden flag beginning this month.

IN CONGRESS, July 4, 1776.

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America,

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.–Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.

He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.
He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.
He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.
He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.
He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the Legislative powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.
He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.
He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.
He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.
He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.
He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.
He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.
He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:
For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:
For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:
For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:
For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:
For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury:
For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences
For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies:
For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:
For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.
He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.
He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.
He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.
He has constrained our fellow Citizens taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.
He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.

In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our Brittish brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.

We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States; that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.

A Dying Nation

The nation of my fathers no longer exists! The USA is now officially dead! I will be burning my flags today and will not be celebrating independence day since the nation born that day no longer exists. No longer is this the nation conceived by the founders and nurtured with the blood and treasure of untold hundreds of thousands. The Supreme Court, designed by the founders to protect the Constitution and therefore the protections it offers us  from a wayward Congress or Executive, decided to abdicate its duty and shred the Constitution. This decision is not the first of its type.  This decision is the back breaker, the dam breaker, the final blow. It is now officially the Imperial Federal Government that owns us. No longer is this a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. Soon the government will begin the work of telling us what food we can and cannot consume, what vehicles we can and cannot own and operate, what jobs we can and cannot do, and who will and will not get to go to college, and who will and will not get to be born. The time is upon us. The only question that remains is where exactly is the tipping point. At what point will this nation rise up and throw off the shackles our government has placed on us? How short must the leash be before enough of us demand to be free once more? Or is that time passed? Is it too late already?
